How Diablo Became Spirit

This story gets to me every time I think about it…I'm so moved by the incredible transformation that takes place with Diablo.

Deborah Hardee Journal - How Diablo Became Spirit

The story begins with a black leopard named Diablo. Rescued from a European zoo, Diablo was taken to the Jakani Wildlife Sanctuary near Cape Town, South Africa. Diablo had been abused at the zoo, so he arrived at Jakani angry and snarling at any human who came near, which left his handlers terrified of him.

Then Anna Breytenbach, an animal communicator, was hired to see if she could calm the leopard. If you haven't already seen it, you'll want to watch the YouTube video to see what unfolds from there. [Ok, stop reading and come back when you've watched it.]

Farewell to Spirit

I was so inspired by Anna and the transformation that Diabolo went through that I looked up her website and got on her email list. A few days ago, I opened an email from Anna with the subject line “Farewell to Spirit”. Below is the written farewell and a link to Spirit's tribute video.

Deborah Hardee Blog

"After an incredible 21 years lived in both the northern and southern hemispheres, Spirit has left his body. For more than a decade he's been enjoying his time in the sun at Jukani in South Africa. At this ethical animal sanctuary the wild residents have a peaceful life in their large enclosures with natural vegetation and places to hide away from human view if they so choose. No animals are trained or interacted with and the curators manage the wellbeing of the cats with gentle and kind methods.

During a veterinary examination under sedation, Spirit was discovered to have cancer that had advanced beyond any treatment possibilities. The appropriate decision was taken to euthanize without waking him up or putting him through any unnecessary hardship. He floated away to the afterlife in the presence of longtime attendants and medical professionals that he knew and loved. We thank them for their care for Spirit right to the very end of his time on Earth. His legacy lives on in the hearts of humans around the world who were touched by his story and the transformation he brought about for those close to him and beyond."

Stopped In Our Tracks!

I love the story of how Diabolo became Spirit! It reminds me of the truth that all of us are healing from an abusive past. We've all been conditioned in one way or another to react to trauma with anger and resentment. And just like Spirit, we can be healed with love and embody a new perspective on life. We can be taken aback—or as Spirit said, "stopped in our tracks"—when we connect with love, forgiveness and compassion.

Join my tribe by subscribing below and you'll begin your activation journey with specific ways you can create a life full of love and a connection with spirit that can stop you in your tracks and transform your life.
